This fabulous 15-Hour Mind-Body Training Course can be presented at your own club, spa or resort!

All workshops and lectures are available as "stand alone" presentations or may be tailored to suit your needs as a custom series.

  • Workout One: "Awareness Walking" (75 min.)

This is a great way to start the mind/body track because it is a simple and effective way to introduce beginners to consciousness combined with movement. We will do a power walk and introduce internal and external focusing techniques into the workout.

  • Workshop Two: "Mind/Body Overview, Introducing the Concept"
    (75 min.)

An exciting and innovative look at the historical and present day meanings of the term mind/body including: How different cultures integrated themselves into the universe. Defining the role of the healer in those cultures. The definition of what it meant to be "healthy". And finally, how those traditions got lost in our modern cultures. Leading to: Why is mind/body coming back now and how does that relate to fitness instructors? The search for meaning and connection in both the outer and inner worlds and how to access them through the practices we are learning in this week-end. (This is a very simple lecture. Don't let the description throw you off. It's accompanied by a great slide show.)

  • Workshop Three: "Introducing Mind/Body Techniques into the Gym"
    (90 min.)

When mind/body is incorporated into your weight training workouts they become much more effective. Included: Warm-ups that synchronize breath and body and develop kinesthetic awareness. Incorporating goals and affirmations throughout the workout. Conscious cuing...how your choice of language affects your clients. Aware breathing for increased endurance. "Touch Training" for heightened muscle and joint awareness. Stretching for total relaxation and renewed energy.

  • Workshop Four: "Incorporating Basic Yoga Principles into Aerobics and Gym Training" (120 min.)

Yoga develops strength, concentration, balance, flexibility, and self-awareness. It can be safely introduced in warm-ups and cool-downs. Included: Standing postures that develop balance, stamina, grace, and flexibility. Safety through poses and counter-poses. Seated postures for cool-down stretching. Using the breath to increase focus and relaxation. Incorporating yoga principles into everyday workouts and life in general.

  • Workshop Five: "Exercise Playfulness, Create Your Own Mind/Body Movements" (90 min.)

By understanding the basic principles of what makes an exercise mind/body we can begin to make up our own integrated workouts. This will make you very unique in the fitness world. Included: Integrating movement and breath. Right/Left brain exercises. Integrating visualization and verbal affirmations with movement. Kinesthetic awareness exercises. For the last 20 minutes of this workshop we will divide into groups. Each group will create and demonstrate a basic mind/body exercise.

  • Workshop Six: "Deep Relaxation and Guided Visualization" (90 min.)

This form of active meditation is gaining in popularity as exercisers realize the power of the mind to influence the body. This is a useful stress reduction tool. When a workout (aerobic or weights) is concluded with even five minutes of relaxation and visualization it feels much more complete. You and your clients will benefit. Included: Setting the mood through environment, music and your voice. Language that triggers relaxation. Creating a guided visualization for a specific purpose...i.e. changing a habit pattern, peace of mind, spiritual expansiveness, developing intuition, etc. Properly bringing a client back to ordinary consciousness. Since this is a form of light self-hypnosis we need to make certain our clients are fully awake and aware before we leave them.

  • Workshop Seven: "Fitness Mapping" (90 min.)

A visual outlining, motivational technique that allows creativity and freedom in program planning and implementation. This process works for aerobics instructors, personal trainers and lifestyle consultants. It's also a terrific brainstorming technique for program directors and managers. Included: Introduction to mind-mapping laws and techniques. Conversion of mind-mapping to fitness-mapping including ways to get the client involved in the process. Practice the technique in small groups (4 or 5). Exchange feedback with the whole group.

  • Workshop Eight: "Beginning Meditation and Breathing Practices"
    (90 min.)

Prepares fitness instructors to introduce beginning meditation and Yogic breathing practices to aerobic classes or private clients. Emphasis is on experiencing and understanding the "mind/body bridge". Includes: Discussion on the importance of conscious breathing...how, why, etc. Introduction to focused breath work including belly breathing, alternate nostril breathing and fire breath. Lecture on meditation in it's various forms and the different effects of each. Introductory practice of the various forms of meditation. We will conclude with a discussion so participants can share their experiences and ask questions.

  • Workshop Nine: "Tai' Chi Chu'an as a Performance Enhancement Technique for Fitness Instructors and Personal Trainers" (120 min.)

Participants will learn basic tai chi principles and movements so they can incorporate them into any exercise routine. These principles bring grace and consciousness to all movement. Included: We will explore the main principles of tai chi; relaxation, separation of weight, moving from center, erect posture and rootedness and how they apply to exercise and life. Simple warm-up exercises that include the principles. The tai chi walk and dance of the five elements.

  • Workshop Ten: "Is it Science or is it Pseudoscience?" (90 min.)

A look at some of the more popular beliefs and theories pertaining to the way mind/body is being introduced into the fitness world. Including: The "Fight or Flight" response. The "Relaxation Response". The truth about Endorphins.  Neuropeptides and the bodies internal communication pathways. Placebos, and an array of other ideas for you to consider.
